Context

The Care4Skills training programme is designed for professionals in social work, social care, and nursing.
It aims to support their career growth, professional development, and improve their working conditions.
By promoting the sharing of knowledge and resources, this initiative aims to improve the skills of the LTC workforce, making the sector more capable, adaptable, and prepared for future challenges.
Care4Skills was established as a collaborative initiative led by the Skills Partnership, bringing together a diverse group of experts, stakeholders, and organizations with a shared mission to enhance long-term care (LTC).
Goals
Design high-quality training programmes to address the urgent need for skills in LTC.
Create a common strategy to predict and adjust to future skill needs, with a focus on digital tools and person-centered care.
Review and update current job profiles, or create new ones, to match the skills needed for excellence in the field.
Create vocational training programmes with recognised qualifications to address new skill needs and improve the workforce’s abilities.
Prioritise the training of more LTC workers in person-centered care and digital competencies.
Establish certified curricula at both national and European levels to standardise training and qualifications.
Elevate the importance of skills on the political agenda at both European and national levels.
Expand the Partnership for Skills in LTC to include a wider range of stakeholders from across the sector.
Milestones
The development of the Sectoral Skills Strategy for Long-Term Care will be structured around four main phases, each supported by a co-design and review process among partners to ensure alignment and effectiveness.

A Rapid Response Training Programme will be launched to provide essential training to at least 1,500 frontline workers in the LTC sector to meet urgent skill requirements.
Skills will be gathered and reviewed to develop a framework that identifies emerging job positions and the associated skills needed in the sector.
A comprehensive framework for vocational education and training (VET) curricula will be designed, including a toolkit for educators and four customized curricula, each targeting a different professional group within the LTC sector.
The Sectoral Skills Strategy for the LTC sector will be established, along with national rollout plans to support its implementation.
