Care4Skills has officially launched, bringing together key European partners to advance skills development in the long-term care (LTC) sector. Co-funded by the European Union and coordinated by the European Association of Service providers for Persons with Disabilities (EASPD), Care4Skills will provide vital tools and training opportunities to help LTC professionals enhance their person-centred and digital care skills.
This four-year initiative builds on the momentum of the Partnership for Skills in Long-Term Care, a cross-European alliance established in 2023. The Partnership, which includes 6 European networks and over 20 national organisations, aims to ensure that at least 60% of Europe’s care workforce receives training each year.
At the heart of Care4Skills is a commitment to delivering practical, accessible, and high-quality training. The project will:
-
Deliver rapid training programmes on digital and person-centred care using resources such as the European Care Certificate.
-
Conduct in-depth research to anticipate future skills needs in the LTC sector.
-
Develop and pilot cross-European curricula, available through multilingual e-learning platforms.
-
Launch national processes to validate and certify new training content.
-
Draft a European Strategy to sustainably boost skills in long-term care.
Speaking at the launch, Thomas Bignal, Secretary General of EASPD, highlighted the project’s potential:
“Care4Skills will change the way we train care workers in Europe. It will help professionals deliver better quality, more personalised support, and offer them better working conditions through improved skills.”
With the support of EU networks, service providers, training institutions and social partners, Care4Skills is set to become a cornerstone in transforming Europe’s care workforce.
